Chapter 11: Politics, Diplomacy, and Superfluous Shenanigans

Our adventures awoke with vibrant dreams still swimming in their heads, Ra’Cheep saw a portent of an army of the dead, Flow sensed an incoming tide of ships approaching Diplomacy Island which lay just ahead of our troop up the river maybe only a day or two away. Everyone made their way to the top deck just in time to stop the boat from crashing into a massive wall of wildmagic flowing across the entire river! With everyone’s help the boat was able to pass under it without having to pass through it.

After a day of floating into a massive lake the group finally approached Diplomacy Island. They were met by a group called “the Facilitators” who operated the grounds and hosted the political talks. The facilitators accepted the crew of the Croisant as representatives of Daffadil from Hernsfell. Our four heroes made themselves comfortable in the embassy and looked around the island, their curiosity brimming at all the magical surrounds and the ancient history of the place. Flow was making her way to the records room with Ra’Cheep when he suddenly stopped at a great well in the center of the island… and the center of the negotiations area. Ra’Cheep encouraged Flow to dive into the well and discover what might be under the island, at length she agreed and slipped inside and discovered many ancient dead in a crypt. She discovered a painting that seemed to tell a story of a battle of the Gods that took place and may have formed the lake. While she was making this discovery Ra’Cheep wandered back to the embassy and couldn’t help but chatter with Devi about the mysterious “Forbidden Halls” that were so very near their embassy, with hours until Daffodil arrived Devi and Ra’Cheep went to sneak into the halls and find out what was within. They were deadly silent as they crept inside and discovered a dry dusty unused embassy hall, and two young members of the Facilitators recreating in the basement. Unfortunately as Devi and Ra’Cheep decided to bail on this exploration, one of the young men was trapped in a bear trap and Ra’Cheep was briefly seen by him.

A few moments later after sneaking back to their own embassy Pibble, Devi, Flow and Ra’Cheep had some very tense words. Pibble was ashamed that the party’s actions had cast suspicion on their group and cost the young man his foot. Devi and Flow had, in fact, both been influenced by Ra’Cheep to explore as they did and both felt like he hadn’t been looking out for them well enough.

With these concerns only barely behind them Daffodil arrived to represent Hernfell and the party had to shape up and support her. The group sat with Daffodil at the main political discussion. Many of the other nations were uninterested in rumors of a new God and more than one nation claimed an interest in settling in Hernfell’s lands and occupying them. The Orc leader of Odrin challenged the champions of Hernfell to a duel the next morning and Ra’Cheep noticed that the druids of Engbald were speaking Primordial so he reached out to them stating that they really shared many desires and the people of Hernfell would welcome aid from Engbald. The next morning the heroes fought 4 champions of Odrin and killed one before Zur, called off the fight. Within the hour someone spotted a fleet of ships off the coast and coming in fast, ships bearing the sign of prince “Casian” and the wolf brigade
