Chapter 5: The Warlock of Wolfbridge

Our heroes had just saved several people from enslavement in the mines of Wolfbridge! They were invited to spend the night with the rest of the market association’s resistance group in a warehouse. Ra’Cheep chose to take the strange writing form the crates in the mines to Phineus on the boat to ask it. Phineus seemed to believe it meant that the gnomes of Frell were likely trading for ore from Wolfbridge.

When Ra’Cheep flew back to the group he saw several little goblins with sacks sneaking around the town and got very suspicious. Despite informing the group that some kind of dire conspiracy was clearly going on after dark no-one came to help him root out the cause that night. So finally Ra’Cheep settled in with the others and got some sleep.

Our heroes awoke in a dim and dusty warehouse with the market association and chose to visit an orc named Tinkergong to get some upgraded weapons before confronting whoever was in the bar at the end of Wolf’s Court in the upper district of Wolfbridge.

The group gathered outside a crowded bar while the people of Wolfbridge began to cause a distraction in the streets. Devi managed to sneak drugs into about half of the drinks being served which caused Bubbles and several of the guards to briefly taste colors and see in double vision. Pibble chose to murder the barkeep first, but the cloak fell to the ground empty! As the fight ensued Pibble was turned into an eel and was… fish-napped. Unsure of where Pibble had gone Devi pursued the warlock as he cast a spell on Flow causing her to serenely sit on the floor. The warlock known as the Eel let loose a violent blast of fire that scorched Devi and Ra’Cheep. Immediately Ra’Cheep became badly frightened and dosed himself in alcohol to put out the flames. As Devi followed the threat invisibly the rest of the group managed to escape their magical troubles and follow her and eventually bring down the threat.

As the crowd gathered around and cheered for the new heroes of Wolfbridge our heroes began to ask about the religions of the people and found out that the local cleric was not very well versed in anything beyond the watered down official religion of Hernfell but a druid had hidden themselves in Wolfbridge and might be of some use to the party.

The group of goblins were indeed organized and led the party through a series of caves until they found an older druid woman of the bear tribe. She had been growing food for the whole town in a cavern absolutely filled with brown and grey mushrooms. Ra’Cheep asked if he could use his skills in her service in exchange for some of her skills. The old druid agreed and took Ra’Cheep on a spirit journey to get a sense of some of the nearby powerful Gods or beings of the world. There were three. One was a mighty being traveling down from the NorthEast. the second was a being of pain, agony, hate and destruction. It seemed to be up North near the capital and the site of the impact. The third was something stationary and growing near the river.

As this journey came to an end the rest of the group returned with Darla the healer who had been incapacitated by wild-magic. The old druid was pretty sure she could help. Which was a relief since the party wasn’t sure how else to heal her.

The four heroes then helped the people of Wolfbridge clear out the massive rocky blockage of the river and they found a couple interesting items while doing it!

At least everyone was back on the paddleboat and ready to head North once again! Xyphos approached the group and seemed to have something to say. Once Ra’Cheep cast his spell on her she began to tell the group about how she had once worked with Cassius Aurum. He is third in line to be king and is an unbelievably cruel and dangerous man. He was sent to the far north to protect the border and to protect the royal family name from his violent nature. With the capitol destroyed it seemed likely that he might return if only to see for himself if the title of king of Hernfell was now available! Xyphos had lost her tongue, her fingers and her freedom for standing up to Cassius.

With these sobering thoughts the party moved North, watchful for any sign of the many shifting power figures in the lands of Hernfell.
